Summer & Indian Skin Ageing

Indian summers are harsh. We all talk about drinking more water and avoiding the heat—but our skin is dealing with a lot more than just the temperature.

When the UV index goes really high (which it often does in India), our skin goes through changes that speed up ageing. In fact, most visible ageing—like pigmentation, fine lines, and dullness—is driven predominantly by sun exposure, not just age or hormones.

Here’s what’s really happening:

1. Sun damage isn’t just about tanning

Indian skin has more melanin, so we don’t burn as easily—but that doesn’t mean we’re protected.

  • UVB rays cause tanning and pigmentation. This is why we see uneven skin tone, dark spots, or melasma in summer.

  • UVA rays go deeper into the skin and slowly break down collagen. This is what leads to fine lines and sagging over time.

So even if you’re not getting sunburnt, your skin is still ageing underneath.

2. Heat itself is ageing your skin

It’s not just sunlight—heat plays a big role too.

High temperatures can actually break down collagen in our skin. At the same time, they increase something called oxidative stress (basically internal damage caused by free radicals). This makes our skin look tired, dehydrated and dull.

3. Summer triggers constant low-level irritation

Sweat, humidity, and pollution can keep our skin slightly irritated all the time—even if we don’t notice it.

Over time, this weakens your skin barrier and speeds up ageing. After our 30s, our skin also takes longer to repair itself, so the damage adds up faster.

So what can you do?

You don’t need a complicated routine—just a smart one:

  • Use antioxidants like our Fruitful Nourishing Oil at night. It helps protect your skin from daily damage and keep it looking fresh.

  • Control pigmentation early Ingredients like niacinamide, kojic acid, or plant polyphenols (for a more botanical approach) help prevent dark spots from worsening. Our Radiance Recovery Moisturising Serum goes a step further—targeting multiple pathways of pigmentation with a custom Ayurvedic blend to reveal clearer, more even-toned skin.

  • Don’t skip moisturiser Even in humidity, your skin needs hydration. Go for something light but barrier-supporting, like our Lotus Balance Moisturser. Oil free and Hydration boosting.

  • Wear sunscreen properly. Make sure it protects against both UVA + UVB (look for broad-spectrum, PA+++ or higher).

Beyond skincare

What you eat and how you live matters too.

Cooling, antioxidant-rich foods like pomegranate, green tea and fruits can help your skin handle the stress from within.

The bottom line

Indian summers are unavoidable—but fast skin ageing doesn’t have to be.

Once you understand what your skin is going through, it becomes much easier to protect it and keep it healthy long-term.
